A couple of months back I posted about one of my current projects named YouKon, which is a unit convertor app targeted to engineers. The unique feature of YouKon is that it stores properties that a user generates inside various projects, with a set of projects combining into a database for each user. With any project, the user can toggle between different systems of units (for now, SI and Imperial), and all of the properties are converted simultaneously. I have just uploaded new beta test builds of the app on iOS and Android, which you can download on the links below.

I also have started a new page, specifically for YouKon:
Whats New?
The biggest change with this update is that a user can log in with their email, which they can then use to authenticate in future sessions. What is gained through the authentication is that their projects are shared across multiple sessions on multiple devices. I am using Google’s Firebase and Cloud Firestore for both the authentication and data storage. This has proved to be a huge learning curve for me, especially since I am trying out Firebase for my first time in a multiplatform app. Luckily, the Gitlive Firebase Kotlin SDK has aided in many of the difficult parts that don’t transfer nicely between iOS, Android, and other platforms. If you care to track progress of the YouKon project, I hope you will follow it on Github.

Finally, in case you missed it, Rachel posted a couple of days ago about our ongoing project to track down all the best hiking trails in Pais Vasco. This mountain goat here thought he could sneak up behind me and steal my cheese!
